These are problems that will never be easy to fix, without hugely expensive technology in better cameras, better lighting and better software. The problems have been known for a long time. Accuracy in the 80% range is not good enough, especially for poorly trained users.
Photographing a group of thirty people at a friend's 80th last weekend, bone gentleman's features were less defined, markedly in contrast with the rest of the group. Being of indian descent in the same lighting as 29 others, his face appeared shadowed.
In post-production his smile was clear, features defined and the light in his eyes.
Sadly missing is reference to this aspect in news articles. Creating
Thanks Yolanda, I hope operators understand the problems with accuracy, which could stir up more upset from people who believe people with darker asking are more likely to be targeted as potential criminals. I have a very well off distant Samoan relative who frequently gets stopped driving an expensive 7 Series BMW, I;ve had Maori managers tell me that shopkeepers felt there was nothing for them in their garment shops. This has the risk of upping the ante if it is not dealt with very good care.
