Love this issue! I wish I'd be able to dig out my oldest playlist. It was recorded on my cassette player for sure... But I have no clue what kind of compilation it was. In the early CD era, my oldest mixes were full of different flavors from punk rock and Green Day's hits to Cher's "Believe", party bangers like ATB's "9 PM (Till I Come)", and gangsta rap from NWA, 2Pac, Mase, etc. Thanks for the inspiration to visit the basement at my parents house ๐
So cool if you can find them. When I went back to my parents place to go through things from my youth, which had been hung high in the garage on a big board, like a self made attic, it turned out there had been an ants nest up there for years and everything that wasn't disintegrated was covered in ants and eggs. There was almost nothing that could be retrieved. It never occurred to any of us that there was any risk to my meagre old treasures, which included school books and loads of other items.
I was just telling our friend, Kevin Alexander of 'On Repeat' that I just bought a CD player at a garage sale and I've been borrowing audio CDs from the Toronto Public Library!
I started throwing my tapes out, then I discovered that there is a bit of a come-back happening and a lot of artists are releasing audio cassettes again from new. So I kept what I had left. Lots of memories attached, just like with my vinyl.
