Reminds me of the trip to Pawarenga and I nearly drove straight into the sea - I could see a reflection and it looked like the road was shimmering, but up ahead there was a marae! I opened the door and indeed, it was the tide under the wheels. In the morning I saw that the marae is inaccessible at high tide, which is why I was told to arrive before dark!! Can’t rely on Google for tides info and disappearing roads in this changing climate !!

I always feel quite confused reading about situations like these, and can't process how the heck people can be so blindly trusting about technology 🤔 Recently read about a person who drove into a wall of a nursery building, because GPS showed her it's possible...

P.S. First thing that came to my mind when reading was this epic scene from the Office series https://youtu.be/DOW_kPzY_JY?si=UgfYs2ohJXu3v9vZ

Haha, I have never seen this. Thanks for sharing. I guess one of the causes is driver distraction, and from my past work experience, I know that is one of the top causes of motor vehicle accidents. I came close myself once on a trip to the US. In New Zealand we drive on the left side of the road, with the steering wheel on the right. I was feeling relaxed heading out of New Orleans in my rental, when the nav said sharp turn left at the intersection. Fortunately as I turned into 3 lanes of traffic looking straight at me, they were facing a red traffic light, and I was able to sheepishly wait for a gap to reverse back into my lane and cross the intersection making my left turn into the correct lane. That was just as I was once again getting used to driving on the other side of the road.

oof it must have been hell of a stressful situation! Driving on the other side of the street than usual is absolutely mind-bending! Last year in Mauritius we experienced this with my Tom and I admit that the beginnings were not easy. Fortunately, they like roundabouts there, so it was a big help ;)

It was more stressful for my wife that me. She saw three lanes of traffic, I saw they were waiting at a red light. My focus was on getting back to where I was supposed to be, because the traffic behind me wasn't waiting for me :) Embarrassing more than stressful lol
