I recall being invited to play for the end of year prize giving at a yacht club which will remain nameless. About half way into my set of chansons, the inebriated yachties started heckling me demanding that I play some Jimmy Buffett songs. As he didn't feature in my repertoire, I was quickly dispatched with a bottle of Appleton's rum , courtesy of the treasurer, rapidly joining their festive ranks, leaving them sans musician for the remainder of the evening.

I don't think there have been that many people who have covered Buffet's songs. I don't recall ever hearing anyone else play them. Being dispatched with a bottle of Appleton's can't be that bad :) You do remind me of rugby club parties I played at in my twenties. All they wanted was music they could sing along with (i.e. they knew the words), and dance to, especially once the liquor was flowing freely. We sometimes played what we thought was crap and they loved it. All I can say is that there were much harder ways to make a living than performing music. Sometimes we forget that. I guess the challenge is that our music is personal, we are attached to it, whereas a lot of our work has no meaning to us, it is mostly just exchanging our time for money. Almost as if we are suspending our life to start at the end of the work day. Having said that, you and I have both had some wonderful 'jobs' over the years :)
