Ummffff. That hit hard. Difficult memory suspensefully told (not sure if you intended it that way?!). Really enjoy your memoirs Luigi. A long time ago I wrote a story about my first real crush (from age 13 to 16) - I ended up crashing his car too, a bright red Ford Escort - the true love of his life, lol). I wonder what he remembers of me and vice versa. I recently found the story again and can see, weirdly, how it belongs in my manuscript somewhere. There's a real innocence/naïveté in our first relationships - admittedly I can't really call my crush a relationship. But looking back it's not so much him that I can see clearly, but myself... all the ways I wasn't ready for the world. ahhh, but we are memoiirists and we love this stuff!!
Thanks Nadine, that was a story that only a handful of people have heard. I was 10 when I had my first crush, at a summer kids camp. I'll have to dig up those memories sometime. Its good to remember. Actually that was the second, the first was aged 8. It ended when I wasn't invited to her 9th birthday. I told her I had bought a diamond ring for her with real diamonds but I wasn't going to give it to her now. Stupid little boy.
ha!! reminds me of my son who invited one of his best friends to his 8th birthday (happened to be a girl) but was encouraged by another different girl to uninvite her! He asked for the invite back and that friend was devastated and their friendship was forever tarnished. When I found out what had happened my boy was distraught, he knew he'd done a dumb thing. Silly little boy!! I tried to fix things but the damage was done, the girl didn't want to come to the party. They eventually ended up in the same science class in high school, but my son said he was still deeply ashamed!!
